Substantial humanitarian action is urgently required in Sudan in 2014.Overall, a total of 6.9 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance including life-saving interventions, protection from conflict and violence, strengthening household and community coping mechanisms and, where conditions permit, supporting longer-term solutions to the plight of internally displaced people (IDPs) and refugees.

On 8 July 2014, a humanitarian emergency was declared in the Gaza Strip, following an escalation in hostilities involving intense Israeli aerial and naval bombardment and Palestinian rocket fire into Israel. This is the worst escalation of conflict in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Israeli occupation, surpassing the length and severity of Israel’s 2008/2009 Operation “Cast Lead”.
Six terrible months have passed since fighting broke out in Juba in December 2013, and quickly spread across much of the country. Six months of fear and suffering for the people of South Sudan. Six months of sadness and frustration for all those who care about this young state’s future.
