CERF allocates US$1.7 million for emergency water and food for thousands of families in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, thousands of people do not have access to the most basic services and resources.

On 10 July, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) provided US$1.7 million for the provision of water and food to drought-stricken communities in Sri Lanka.
The failed annual northeast monsoon, which runs from December to February and supplies water for Sri Lanka├óÔé¼Ôäós agricultural production, resulted in severe crop losses and water shortages. By the end of March 2014, over 240,000 families had been affected, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

CERF allocates $1.5 million to help measles vaccination efforts in Somalia

Thousands of people in Somalia are at risk of disability or death if they are not urgently vaccinated against the highly contagious disease.

 
On 10 July 2014, the Emergency Relief Coordinator allocated US$ 1.5 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to help humanitarian partners in Somalia respond to a deadly measles outbreak.
The CERF funds will allow the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Children├óÔé¼Ôäós Fund (UNICEF) to support immunization activities targeting 520,000 children and preventive measures to contain the virus.

South Sudanese refugees receive $4.6 million from CERF

In response to the urgent needs of the South Sudanese refugees, the Emergency Relief Coordinator approved a US$4.6 million CERF Rapid Response grant on 3 March 2014.

 
20 February 2014: Hostilities between the Government and opposition groups in South Sudan have forced tens of thousands of people to seek refuge in neighbouring countries, including Kenya. UN agencies expect that by the end of March 2014, 20,000 South Sudanese will have arrived at Kakuma camp in north-west Kenya.
