CERF allocates $2 million to Bangladesh
The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated an unprecedented US$175 million to neglected emergencies in 2013. Twelve humanitarian emergencies received some $100 million in the first underfunded emergencies round in January 2013. Another thirteen hidden emergencies were provided some $75 million through the second underfunded emergencies round in July 2013.
The Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos, selected the following countries to benefit from the underfunded emergencies window: Bangladesh ($2 million), Chad ($8 million), Colombia ($3.5 million), Democratic People Republic of Korea ($6 million), Djibouti ($3 million), Haiti ($1.5 million), Madagascar ($3 million), Mauritania ($4 million), Myanmar ($3 million), Niger ($8 million), Pakistan ($10 million), Philippines ($3 million) and Somalia ($20 million).
