Iraq 2014

Iraq is currently experiencing one of the largest population displacements in the world. Since the beginning of 2014, the UN estimates that as 1.2 million people have been uprooted due to fighting among various armed groups and Iraqi security forces.

In February 2014, the Emergency Relief Coordinator approved a US$4.8 million rapid response grant from CERF to support relief efforts in Iraq. The funds will allow aid agencies to provide desperately needed food, medicine and health services.

In addition, a polio outbreak in neighbouring Syria spread to Iraq where the first polio case in 14 years was confirmed in February 2014.

In July 2014, CERF disbursed another $2 million to help humanitarian partners address the polio outbreak in Anbar Province in western Iraq.
