CERF allocates $1.9 million to IDPs in the Republic of the Sudan
23 August 2013: Recent escalations in armed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudanese Revolutionary Front have caused thousands of people to flee their homes in the Kordofan region of the Republic of the Sudan. At least 90,000 people have become internally displaced in Kordofan in 2013, on top of an estimated 300,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) throughout the whole country.
In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis, the Central Emergency Response Fund has allocated US$1,937,900 to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP).
With an allocation of $99,671, UNICEF will provide educational services to the IDP children. WFP has received $1,838,229 to provide food assistance.
The allocations are expected to benefit 52,000 IDPs in South, North and West Kordofan.
