Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESDRR)

OCHA has been a part of the driving force behind establishing the first in Central Asia Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESDRR). Along with partners, OCHA saw the Center open its doors in Almaty in 2016. The focus of the CESDRR is to improve regional cooperation and coordination in the field of disaster response and risk reduction, enhance solidarity and promote human security in Central Asia. OCHA continues providing technical assistance and guidance to the Center.

Objectives of CESDRR:

  • Develop cooperation in disaster risk reduction, prevention and response to emergency situations;
  • Mitigate disaster risk factors, identify, assess, forecast and monitor hazards;
  • Coordinate mutual efforts and strengthen preparedness for effective and timely response to emergencies;
  • Implement regional and international cooperation in DRR and emergency management;
  • Increase the safety of people during natural and manmade emergencies;
  • Attract international and non-profit organizational grants for disaster risk reduction, development and implementation of joint international projects;
  • Implement international and other programs in the field of disaster risk reduction, prevention and elimination of emergency situations.
