Regional Inter-Agency Standing Committee (RIASC) Task Force

At the initiative of ROCCA, Regional Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Task Force for the South Caucasus and Central Asia was established on 1 October 2012 to foster closer regional cooperation and coordination of emergency response and preparedness issues, and build stronger links to disaster risk reduction initiatives in the region.

The task force members implement mutually reinforcing emergency response preparedness and emergency response activities by developing joint strategic priorities and common action plans. It supports the efforts of Governments and national partners to reduce the potential impact of natural and man-made disasters in the South Caucasus and Central Asia region.

The overall objective of the task force is to ensure the availability of adequate levels of emergency response preparedness for humanitarian crises, as well as the means to respond effectively and in a coordinated manner.

Participation in the Regional IASC Task Force is open to IASC members and partners that are involved in emergency preparedness and response in the region and have a regional mandate:

  • United Nations agencies
  • NGOs
  • Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (ICRC, IFRC, national societies)

Donors are standing invitees to the Regional IASC Task Force meetings. This is in recognition of their important role in supporting emergency preparedness and response in the region.

The Regional IASC Task Force meets on a quarterly basis. Additional meetings are held if required.
