About Multimedia Products

OCHA develops and produces targeted communications products. Some are used to highlight or illustrate specific events or crises, while others help staff and partners promote humanitarian issues in general. They clarify OCHA’s position and messages, but deliver them in various creative and visual ways.

Since 2009, OCHA has produced over 50 film products in-house, including documentaries, public service announcements and video messages for television, cinema and the Web. With stories as diverse as cholera in Zimbabwe to the earthquake in Haiti, our films tell the stories of the people we serve, and raise awareness about the work of OCHA and our partners. High-level mission and disaster coverage is another facet of our work, with OCHA footage made available to international media networks and partners on the same day it is shot. Major projects include the collaborative 2010 and 2011 World Humanitarian Day film projects. View latest OCHA Videos.

OCHA gathers photography documenting global humanitarian action to visually tell the story of disaster-affected people, show aid in action and motivate the international community. IRIN provides a public gallery of photographs relevant to humanitarian actors and international media. Print-quality photos covering the world’s most pressing humanitarian crises can be downloaded free of charge for non-commercial use. View latest OCHA Photos.

OCHA uses maps and graphics to communicate ideas and illustrate information in a clear and appealing way. Humanitarian emergencies are often complex and OCHA creates visual products to make multifaceted issues easier to understand for a variety of audiences. Our products are widely used, whether for operational decision-making or in global media coverage. They are disseminated primarily through ReliefWeb and OCHA Online.

OCHA produces an array of reports and publications, from in-depth analytical papers, to daily situation reports on major new crises, and flagship annual appeals for humanitarian funding. The OCHA on Message documents communicate OCHA's definition of a range of complex issues and concepts, such as protection of civilians, internal displacement and humanitarian access. The documents also help OCHA's advocacy on these issues. View all publications and products.
