12 Jun 2014

People affected by conflicts and disasters have had their say in the lead up to the first World Humanitarian Summit Regional Consultation in Cote d’Ivoire.

The concerns and perspectives of communities in six West and Central Africa countries will be at the heart of the first World Humanitarian Summit Regional Consultation in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on 19-20 June.

Communities in Mauritania, Mali, Nigeria, Niger, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon were asked to share their experiences of humanitarian assistance, as well as their concerns and frustrations about the support they received. The interviews were carried out by IRIN correspondents.

In the past decade, the number of people affected by disasters has doubled, and the cost of humanitarian response has tripled. The World Humanitarian Summit aims to improve humanitarian action and to build a more inclusive and diverse humanitarian system.
