Pakistan in pictures
Pakistan has endured a series of unprecedented disasters over recent years, from the 2005 earthquake to devastating floods in 2010. Monsoon rains in 2011 caused widespread flooding yet again, affecting more than 5 million people and compounding the struggle faced by people still rebuilding after last year.
Since the Government’s request for humanitarian assistance in September, the UN and partners have delivered food to more than 3 million people, and provided emergency shelter and household goods to more than 450,000 households.
More than 1.2 million people have received clean drinking water, and 1.35 million people have received essential medicines and emergency health care.
The following images highlight the remarkable resilience of Pakistani people, and demonstrate the importance of a coordinated and principled humanitarian response.
