Global Humanitarian Policy Forum 2016

Meeting needs and reducing suffering: humanitarian action from (GA) resolution 46/182 to the World Humanitarian Summit and our collective way forward

12 December 2016, 14:30 – 17:00
Trusteeship Council, UN Headquarters, New York

Featuring the participation of Mr. Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

25 years ago the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 46/182, which created the humanitarian system. The forum will provide an opportunity for high-level reflection on what has been enabled through 46/182 and to discuss how the outcomes of the World Humanitarian Summit and the Agenda for Humanity help to prepare us for the future.

The Forum will include two high-level panels:

One Humanity: Shared Responsibility – from (GA) resolution 46/182 to the World Humanitarian Summit

This event, led by the Deputy Secretary-General and other high-level panelists, will discuss progress made since the adoption of the resolution in 1991, and the outstanding challenges identified at the World Humanitarian Summit.

Overcoming divides – working towards collective outcomes

This discussion will look at follow-up actions from the World Humanitarian Summit, including on how the peace/humanitarian/development nexus contributes towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This event will be open to all Member States and the humanitarian community.

The event will be webcast through webtv.un.org

You can also join the discussion online through Twitter (#ShareHumanity) and follow @OCHAPolicy
