Oman is home to 2.7 million people, of which around a third are expatriate. Its main humanitarian organization is the Oman Charitable Organization (OCO), which was established in 1996. It runs projects both at home and overseas, with relief projects to China after the earthquakes. Since 2005 it has been active in bordering Yemen, running poverty-reduction, social justice and relief programmes in Al Mahra, Hadramout, Aden, Abyan and Sa’ada. Activities cover education, food, housing, drilling wells and supporting local community associations and refugees from nearby countries.
