Islamic Republic of Iran

Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, with floods, drought and earthquakes being the most frequent natural disasters. Iran is crossed by several major fault lines that cover 97 per cent of the country. Seasonal sandstorms disrupt normal life in the southern regions and cause significant respiratory and lung diseases, such as tuberculosis. The notorious 120-day monsoon winds that hit the south-eastern province can lead to drought.

ROMENA has a Humanitarian Adviser in Iran to support the UNCT and the Government’s National Disaster Management Organization (NDMO) to prepare and respond to humanitarian emergencies.
