The Seychelles is an island country spanning an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, some 1,500 km (932 miles) east of mainland Africa, to the north-east of Madagascar. With an estimated population of 86,525, it has the smallest population of any African state. The country has the highest Human Development Index in Africa.
OCHA ROSA has supported various activities in Seychelles, including:
- carrying out, in December 2011, an assessment mission on the status of preparedness in the country;
- Supporting the UN Resident Coordinator and Government of Seychelles in responding to Cyclone Felleng which hit the Seychelles in January 2013, affecting some 2,000 people;
- Facilitating lessons learnt exercise in 2013.
