Somalia Logistics Cluster Operations
Logistics cluster operations vary in scale from information sharing/coordination (such as infrastructure assessment, port and corridor coordination, transporters and rates, customs, equipment supplier information) to providing common air, and ocean and overland transport, storage. Regular coordination meetings are held involving all stakeholders (UN agencies, Government, international and local NGOs).
Where there are gaps, such as lack of transport capacity, the first option will be for organizations to help each other with capacity. Where this is not possible, the cluster lead agency may intervene, but should act as a provider of last resort.
At the field level, the Cluster reports to the Resident Coordinator / Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC). There is a technical reporting line between the field-level Logistics Cluster and the Global Logistics Cluster support cell (based in Rome). The Global Logistics Cluster support cell provides guidance and support to field-level logistics clusters.
