Emergency Response Fund (ERF) Zimbabwe Update, Dec 2011/January 2012

ERF News

The Emergency Response Fund (ERF) for Zimbabwe is appealing for US$3.5 million under CAP 2012 to support emergency projects in the country. At the beginning of the year, the ERF has a current balance of approximately US$1.3million.

The ERF funds projects that can be implemented within six months or shorter duration and are responding to priority areas of emergency intervention in line with strategic objectives as set out in CAP 2012.

More than one in ten people will need food aid next year

The UN and aid agencies appealed today for US$268 million to help feed 1.5 million people in Zimbabwe next year, as well as to address other urgent humanitarian needs.

More than one in ten Zimbabweans will need food assistance in the first half of the year, and one million children under-five are at risk of malnutrition, according to the Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP) launched in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare.
