Addressing climate-related shocks through humanitarian finance and action

Date: 30 May 2024
Time: 8.00 am- 9:30 am
Location: Room 10, American University of Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda
The event will raise awareness about ways to minimize and address the impacts of climate shocks in SIDS, including through humanitarian finance and action. In the face of growing climate related impacts, it is critical to urgently scale action and finance. Since its inception in 2006, the Central Emergency Response Fund has provided more than US$$2.3 billion dollars in response to extreme weather-related shocks and helped finance anticipatory action. At COP 28, a new Loss and Damage Fund was operationalized to address climate related impacts. This session will explore ways to coordinate and ensure coherence between funds and actions on the ground. Speakers will include representatives from Member States as well the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and OCHA.
