Carla Martinez
Carla Martinez has served as OCHA Head of Office in the Democratic Republic of Congo since November 2022. She has more than 25 years of experience leading and coordinating humanitarian and conflict prevention interventions, including previous senior management positions with OCHA, the United Nations Department of Political Affairs and UNICEF. She has also worked for the International Organization for Migration. Prior to her work with the UN, Martinez worked with Médecins Sans Frontières in several positions, including head of the emergency department, head of the Middle East regional office, head of mission in the Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d'Ivoire and Sudan and emergency coordinator in various countries. She has also worked with Oxfam and the Gavi Alliance. A national of Spain, Martinez holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University and a PhD in Physics from Universidad Complutense in Madrid. She speaks English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
