Thanks for keeping the humanitarian agenda alive”

The OCHA-hosted Humanitarian Hub at COP29 received a resounding vote of thanks from several participants.

“We would like to thank OCHA for keeping the humanitarian agenda alive [at the COP],” said Animesh Kumar, the head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) at Bonn.

At least 30 humanitarian organizations including UN entities and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) participated in 25 events at the Humanitarian Hub between 15-22 November.

“Thematic pavilions are always more useful than organizational pavilions because the ownership of stakeholders is much higher in thematic pavilions that is why we [ UNDRR] always support them – the Resilience Hub and the water pavilion,” explained Animesh.

The Hub at COP29 was hosted on behalf of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee – the highest global forum to coordinate humanitarian response.

Participants lauded the Hub and its team for the support they provided to NGOs.

“I believe the Humanitarian Hub has been one of the best spaces in terms of the size, facilities, meetings,” said Tanjir Hossain, Global Resilience Advisor with ActionAid International. “I would like to advocate that Humanitarian Hub continues to be present in the COP process – this is one of the best spaces for networking and knowledge sharing. "

With thanks to USAID for funding the Humanitarian Hub pavilion
