11 OCTOBER 2025, Deir Al Balah
1. Wide shot, Deir Al Balah general views
2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Hadr, displaced person:
“My family and I walked from Deir Al-Balah carrying our belongings. Our house is nothing but a tent and blankets. We’re going back to Gaza [city]. Our home is destroyed. The whole area is destroyed. No water, food, electricity, or even a life. We have to try to live and figure things out. The situation and the circumstances are difficult, regarding living basics, water, electricity, etc. I’m going back to Gaza [city] on foot. We’re taking a small break now.”
3. Wide shot, returnees
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Iman Kuhail, displaced person:
“My name is Iman Kuhail and I came to Deir Al-Balah from Gaza. We’ve lived a tragic life solely experienced by us in the region. We’re burned out. I was saved from under the rubble alongside my six children. We’re now separated from our home. I can’t put it into words. I hope that our life changes for the better soon and for Arab countries to stand by us. Help us rebuild and make our children’s lives safe. I hope that the youth gets to find places to live. And I hope they are provided with working opportunities. Children like this need a better and safe place to exist and play. I have six children and they need care and basic needs. My daughters are also injured and need to be medicated abroad. Thankfully, this war has ended and I hope it never returns. I hope that Arab countries stand beside us even after the ceasefire to support us all; women, men, children and to provide our needs.”
5. Various shots, Deir Al Balah general views, returnees
6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Amal, displaced person:
“It’ been a horrible struggle. When we went to the south, there wasn’t any water. A four-hour line for drinking water and another one for regular water.”
7. Various shots, Deir Al Balah general views, returnees
8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahmad, displaced person:
“Our home was completely destroyed. We escaped the bombing and came to Nuseirat camp. And now we’re going back to Al-Shatea’so we can figure out a living plan before winter comes.”
13 OCTOBER 2025, GAZA CITY
9. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Om Karam, displaced person:
“My name is Om Karam Kuhail. We’ve relocated 13 times. Yes, we’re happy with the ceasefire but our hearts are burdened. We’re going back but to nothing. Our house is one standing wall. We’re going to continue living in a tent on the street. Until we receive support and the hopeful rebuild. So we can live again.”
10. Various shots, Gza City general views, returnees
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Olga Cherevko, Spokesperson, OCHA Gaza:
“We're in Gaza City today, and, we went to a couple of hospitals earlier. I spoke with a few people, some of them have just returned. Others have never left. And everybody's talking, of course, about the ceasefire and the hope that it has brought with it. And everybody's now trying to rebuild their lives. We as the humanitarian community are doing assessments, we're scaling up deliveries. We are reaching places we couldn't reach before. And as the proverb goes, the 1,000 mile journey begins with just one step. And we will be here with the people as the humanitarian community every step of that way.”

Storyline
Since the ceasefire plan came into effect, the UN and its humanitarian partners have been able to move more freely across parts of Gaza from which Israeli forces have withdrawn, without coordination with Israeli authorities.
“Everybody's talking, of course, about the ceasefire and the hope that it has brought with it.” said Olga Cherevko, OCHA Gaza spokesperson. “And as the proverb goes, the 1,000-mile journey begins with just one step. And we will be here with the people as the humanitarian community every step of that way.”
