Call for submissions: Photo competition showcasing persons with disabilities
Exciting news for photographers! You can now submit your photos to a competition that aims to spotlight resilient, disability-inclusive communities, and to showcase the role of persons with disabilities as agents of change.
The competition’s theme is ‘Changemakers in action: Building disability-inclusive, resilient communities’.
Launched ahead of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December), the competition is sponsored by the UN Development Programme and OCHA for Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience-Building.
Its theme was inspired by the theme of the 2023 International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction:
‘Fighting inequality for a resilient future’.
We invite you to submit your photos by Monday 27 November. Each photo must be accompanied by a short description (no more than 100 words).
More than 1 billion people, or about 15 per cent of the world’s population, experience some form of disability. Most persons with disabilities live in the Global South and have a higher likelihood of living in poverty. An estimated 55 million persons with disabilities require humanitarian assistance, and more than 17 million are thought to be forcibly displaced due to persecution and other human rights violations, conflict and violence.
Let's embark on this journey together to celebrate the indomitable spirit of communities, individuals and organizations striving to create a world where everyone is a part of positive change. Your participation will not only capture inspiring moments but help to build a legacy of inclusivity and resilience for generations to come.
