Typhoon Yagi & Southwest Monsoon (8 to 16 September 2024)
Typhoon Yagi, originating in the Philippines and passing over Hainan, China, swept through the region, causing severe flooding, widespread infrastructure damage, and significant displacement and loss of life. In Viet Nam, the typhoon raised river levels, triggering floods and landslides in the northern region. In Lao PDR, the typhoon, combined with the southwest monsoon, caused landslides, river overflows, and flooding, impacting both rural and urban areas. Thailand experienced flooding in 28 provinces, with some cities still submerged. Myanmar was hit by extensive flooding, affecting 59 townships. Reports indicate hundreds of fatalities, with many more missing.
