Central African Republic Humanitarian Dashboard (January - December 2023)
HUMANITARIAN SITUATION
2023 saw a relative improvement of the humanitarian context in the Central African Republic compared to the past five years. Security has improved in some parts of the country, particularly in the south-west and major cities. Nevertheless, people continue to face insecurity and threats to their well-be- ing, with the resurgence of new hotspots particularly in the South-East, further exacerbated by the impact of the ongoing crises in Sudan and southern Chad, which have led to an influx of returnees, and asylum-seekers and refugees into the north-east and north-west of the country. In 2023, the number of the most vulnerable people for whom humanitarian assistance alone is not sufficient to restore their well-being was estimated at 3.4 million. 2.4 million of them, extremely vulnerable, have been targeted by the Humanitarian Response Plan.
From January to December 2023, 112 humanitarian actors provided life-saving humanitarian assistance to 2 million people in at least one sector, with disparities between sectors depending on the level of funding received. As of December 31, only 56.3 per cent of the US$ 533.3 million required for the humanitarian response in 2023 has been mobilized, US$ 233.2 million less than expected.
