The eastern provinces of Chad (Ouaddaï, Wadi-Fira, and Ennedi Est) are facing a critical humanitarian situation, further worsened by the recent displacements of populations
fleeing violence in Sudan. This crisis has been further intensified by the confirmation, on July 24, 2025, of cholera cases in Dougui refugee site, in Ouaddaï Province.
According to the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention (MSPP), cholera cases were confirmed on July 24 at the Dougui refugee site (Chokoyan health district), which is
currently hosting approximately 19,000 people. On July 24, the national laboratory confirmed the presence of Vibrio cholerae O1, Ogawa serotype (the cholera pathogen), from
samples collected on July 21 in Dougui. The health district had recorded its first suspected case on July 13, and as of July 30, a total of 128 cases had been reported, including
7deaths—representing 5,5% fatality rate (SitRep No. 4, MSPP). In response to this situation, the government, through the MSPP, appointed an incident manager and deployed
teams on ground to provide technical support.
