Mozambique: 2026 Flood Humanitarian Response as of 3 February 2026 [EN/PT]
SITUATION OVERVIEW
Since mid-December, severe and persistent flooding has affected large parts of the country, particularly in the southern and central regions of Mozambique. Rivers have overflowed, communities have been displaced, and homes, schools, health facilities, water systems, and roads have been damaged or destroyed.
According to INGD data more than 723,000 people have been affected and more than 85,000 people are hosted in 116 accommodations centers. The United Nations and humanitarian partners are working hand in hand with national and local authorities to reinforce national systems, strengthen coordination and support the delivery of life-saving assistance.
However, the scale and pace of this emergency exceed available capacity. The 2026 HNRP Addendum for the flood response seeks to mobilize US$187 million to provide urgent, life‑saving assistance to approximately 600,000 people affected by the floods. The Flood Humanitarian Response Dashboard outlines progress by each cluster against agreed targets. The information is compiled by OCHA based on inputs from humanitarian partners and clusters.
