SITUATION OVERVIEW

Since mid-December, severe and persistent flooding has affected large parts of the country, particularly in the southern and central regions of Mozambique. Rivers have overflowed, communities have been displaced, and homes, schools, health facilities, water systems, and roads have been damaged or destroyed. According to INGD data 692,000 people have been affected and more than 101,000 people are hosted in 100 accommodations centers. With more than
159,000 destroyed, flooded and affected up to 796,000 people might be displaced by floods (assuming 5 people per household). The United Nations and humanitarian partners are working hand in hand with national and local authorities to reinforce national systems, strengthen coordination and support the delivery of life-saving assistance. However, the scale and pace of this emergency exceed available capacity. The 2026 HNRP Addendum for the flood response seeks to mobilize [US$ 187 million] to provide urgent, life‑saving assistance to approximately [600,000] people affected by the floods, with a clear focus on the most vulnerable - children, women, older persons, persons with disabilities, and displaced communities. Funding will support critical interventions across key sectors, including emergency shelter and non‑food items, water, sanitation and hygiene, health, nutrition, food security and livelihoods, protection, and education in emergencies. It will also strengthen logistics, coordination, and information management to ensure that assistance reaches people quickly and efficiently.
