Restored community clinic transforms health care in southern Myanmar
For conflicted-affected communities in Myanmar’s Tanintharyi Region, daily life is overshadowed by the ever-present threat of armed clashes and airstrikes. Access to healthcare has long been a struggle, with resource-strapped families often forced to make impossible choices when facing medical emergencies.
With support from the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund (MHF), a local NGO has brought transformative change to remote villages through the renovation and expansion of a local health clinic. In addition to structural improvements, the clinic is being provided with essential medicines, equipment and supplies, greatly improving access to quality and dignified health services for conflict-affected communities in the area.
The revamped clinic can now accommodate inpatients, ensuring emergency cases receive immediate attention, including survivors of landmine incidents. “Before the clinic was expanded, we would wait helplessly while our loved ones suffered. Now, we know our children and elders can get the help they need right away,” said a mother of three.
Clinic staff have also witnessed the transformation firsthand. “The upgrades to the clinic allow us to serve more patients comfortably and with dignity,” said a local doctor. “We can now respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently.”
Another staff member added that “seeing families return home safely after treatment reminds us why we do what we do.”
Thanks to the MHF and its local partner, the clinic is no longer just a health facility—it is a lifeline, a symbol of hope, and a source of strength for communities caught on the frontlines of Myanmar’s humanitarian crisis.
As another local person testified, “the clinic reminds us that even in war, someone cares about us and our future.”
