Nigeria: Floods - Situation Report No. 3 (As of 15 October 2024)

HIGHLIGHTS
• Over 300 people dead, 1.2 million affected by floods in 31 states in Nigeria.
• Cholera claims more than 350 lives, over 10,000 suspected cases recorded in Nigeria since January, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
• Preliminary results of rapid joint floods multi-sector needs analysis (MSNA) led by Borno State Government (BSG) indicate pressing need for food and non-food items (NFIs) in emergency shelters in Maiduguri.
• Clean water, sanitation, healthcare and protection among key concerns for flood-affected people in Borno State.
• Flash floods persist in Damasak and Dikwa local government areas (LGAs) in Borno State.
• Water levels of Benue and Niger rivers remain at red alert levels in Makurdi and Lokoja in Benue and Kogi states, respectively.
• Nigerian Senate seeks Marshall Plan to tackle flooding.
