Sahel Dashboard: Humanitarian Overview (as of 13 March 2024)
The Sahel continues to face a complex web of crises, driven by interlinked factors including brutal violence, political instability, climate change, weak governance, chronic poverty, and fraying social fabric. As of 31 December 2023 there were 35.2 million vulnerable women, children and men in need of humanitarian assistance and protection services in the region. The region is home to 5.6 million internally displaced persons and 1.7 million refugees.
As of the end of December 2023, humanitarian actors had reached 12.3 million vulnerable people with humanitarian assistance and protection services during 2023. This is 52 per cent of the total of 23.6 million people targeted. The highest proportion of people reached was in Burkina Faso, where 73 per cent of those targeted were reached.
Of the USD 4.8 billion required in 2023, 37 per cent has been received, totalling USD 1.8 billion.
