Conflict displacement in Hiraan and Gedo Regions: Flash Update No.1 as of 29 July 2025

HIGHLIGHT

• Conflict in central and southern Somalia has displaced over 100,000 people in Hiraan Region (Hirshabelle State) and Gedo Region (Jubaland State) over the past two months, according to humanitarian partners and local authorities.

• On 26 July, clashes intensified in Mahas town, Hiraan Region. Reports indicate that the ongoing conflict has displaced about 22,800 people from the town. Partners are assessing urgent needs.

• In Gedo Region, conflict in Belet Xaawo District since 22 July, has affected over 38,000 people—of whom about 28,000 have been displaced to nearby areas and 10,200 to Mandera in Kenya.

• Seven health facilities in Hiraan have suspended operations, cutting off access to essential healthcare and emergency services for thousands of vulnerable people. Water sources have been damaged, and road access has been obstructed.
