Somalia Monthly Humanitarian Update, March 2025
This report is produced by OCHA Somalia in collaboration with humanitarian partners. It provides information on the humanitarian situation across Somalia in March 2025
HIGHLIGHTS
- Findings of an inter-agency humanitarian evaluation reveal that the scale-up of humanitarian assistance during the 2021-2023 drought saved tens of thousands of lives in Somalia.
- Over the years, the generosity of the international community has played a critical role in helping Somalia navigate recurrent humanitarian crises. However, recent reductions in funding threaten to undermine these efforts.
- An updated Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis indicates that 4.6 million Somalis will face high levels of acute food insecurity, and 1.8 million children will face acute malnutrition including 479,000 children who are likely to be severely malnourished.
- Thousands of Somalis are fleeing their homes due to armed clashes in parts of the country. This situation is compounded by worsening dry conditions and skyrocketing water prices, which have resulted in human and livestock migration.
- Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA)
has initiated a comprehensive relief effort in several regions to address urgent needs by providing food and non-food items to people most affected by crisis.
