Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) in Eastern Africa disbursed US$176.4 million across seven countries in the fourth quarter of 2025 through 183 organizations, reflecting the sustained scale of response to humanitarian needs across the region. Sudan (US$87.5 million) and Somalia (US$37.2 million) accounted for the largest share of transfers, together representing nearly 70 per cent of the regional total, followed by Ethiopia and South Sudan, underscoring the concentration of needs in conflict-affected and food-insecure contexts. The Food Security sector accounted for the largest share of transfers at US$107.1 million, complemented by US$58 million in Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA). This distribution reflects continued prioritization of life-saving support and flexible assistance for households affected by acute food insecurity, displacement and economic shocks.Monthly trends show a steady scale-up from US$54.5 million in October to US$74.7 million in December. The increase was driven in part by the expansion of MPCA in December (US$32.3 million), alongside sectoral transfers (US$42.4 million), reflecting intensified response efforts and seasonal support to crisis-affected populations.National non-governmental organizations accounted for 54 per cent of implementing partners, followed by international non-governmental organizations (40 per cent) and UN agencies (3 per cent), reflecting strong national engagement in the regional CVA response. Bank transfers (44 per cent) and mobile money (27 per cent) were the most widely used delivery mechanisms, enabling accessible, flexible assistance across diverse operational contexts. Overall, fourth-quarter trends reaffirm the central role of CVA in addressing multidimensional humanitarian needs across Eastern Africa.
