Sudan: Humanitarian Access Snapshot (September 2024)
Overall Humanitarian Access Impediments
Humanitarian partners in Sudan continue to face a range of restrictions and challenges due to various reasons. In September 2024, nine access incidents were reported to OCHA from five states, including two cases of bureaucratic impediments, two cases of violence against humanitarian personnel, two instances of interference in humanitarian operations, two attacks against critical public infrastructure and one case of hostilities directly affecting humanitarian operations. The reported cases are only a fraction of the challenges humanitarian partners are facing regularly.
Compared to the previous month, reported bureaucratic impediments have become less prevalent. However, an increase in violence or security incidents affecting humanitarian personnel has been reported, with four humanitarian workers in Darfur and Kordofan states detained for unknown reasons.
Since January 2024, humanitarian organizations have reported 73 access incidents impacting humanitarian operations in 16 states and 30 localities. The most frequently reported access impediments are operational interference (36 per cent), violence against humanitarian personnel (27 per cent), and bureaucratic impediments (26 per cent).
