SITUATION OVERVIEW and HUMANITARIAN IMPACT

Since 6 January, clashes in Aleppo Governorate have continued between government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). As of 10 January, the Aleppo Health Directorate reported a total of 23 deaths and 104 injuries.

Displacements from Ashrafiyeh and Ash-Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhoods continue amid ongoing insecurity. Over the past several days, two humanitarian corridors have been intermittently opened, allowing civilians to evacuate affected areas. An estimated 148,000 people have reportedly been displaced, with the vast majority relocating to Afrin district, while others have sought refuge with host communities within Aleppo City. According to the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, 14 collective shelters are currently accommodating over 2,500 people in Aleppo City and more than 100,000 people are displaced in Afrin District.

Critical civilian infrastructures have been affected. Khaled Al-Fajr Hospital was reportedly targeted and no longer functional. In addition, Al Babiri water station located in eastern Aleppo countryside was suspended, interrupting the water supply in Aleppo City and its rural area. If the station does not resume its activity within 24 hours, Aleppo city will face a serious water supply crisis, with 3 million people without access to water.

A curfew remains in effect in Ashrafiyeh and Ash-Sheikh Maqsoud, alongside continued suspension of public services. The daily life of people in Aleppo City is significantly disrupted, with many residents staying indoors amid ongoing drone strikes targeting multiple locations. Meanwhile, civil aviation authorities have announced the cancellation of all flights to Aleppo airport until further notice. The Ministry of Education announced that schools will continue to be suspended for 15 days.

Hostilities have expanded into rural areas of Aleppo Governorate, including Dayr Hafir, Maskana, and Al-Khafsa. Overall, the situation remains dynamic, with continued risks to civilian safety, humanitarian access, and the delivery of essential services.
