Vanuatu: Tropical Cyclone Lola: Internationally Deployed Assets (As of 2 November 2023)
OVERVIEW
Tropical Cyclone Lola (Category 4) made landfall over Vanuatu on October 25th. The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) reported damages to building infrastructure, agricultural areas, and contamination of water sources in Torba, Sanma, Penama, Malampa and Shefa provinces. In addition, the cyclone caused significant flooding, landslides and also damage to roads and communication infrastructure. NDMO estimates that some 91,000 people were affected (around 21,000 household) in these provinces.On October 25th, the Government of Vanuatu declared a State of Emergency for six months in Torba, Sanma, Penama, Malampa, and Shefa provinces. Assessments are currently going on throughout the most affected areas and the National Response Plan is curently being finalized by NDMO.
