The Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) has allocated an additional $7.5 million through the Reserve Allocation to areas with one of the most worrying food security situations in the north of Somalia. The interventions will be implemented by 13 eligible partners, whose projects were selected through a competitive, inclusive and transparent process. While in much of the country the Gu season has left an above average rainfall, the regions of Bari, Nugaal, Sool and Sanaag received little or no rains and continue to show high rates of malnutrition. The new grant also prioritises life-saving response to communities affected by the cyclone Sagar, Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and the rebuilding of livelihoods in communities that have already lost up to 70 per cent of their livestock due to four consecutive seasons of below normal rains.
