Despite the lack of media interest, the fact remains that 2.5 mil people were left in dire of assistance by last year's violence. The UN’s top humanitarian official in CAR visited one of the remotest areas of the country. Here is what she saw.

Despite the lack of media interest in the CAR crisis, the fact remains that more than a million people have been forced from their homes and around half of the population is in urgent need of assistance as a result of violence over the past year. Among the most affected are children, who are increasingly suffering from malnutrition and at risk of being recruited by armed groups, and women, who are forced into marriage – at times when they are as young as 12.

The United Nations’ top humanitarian official in Central African Republic, Claire Bourgeois, visited one of the remotest areas of the country, the north-eastern province of Vakaga, to show the communities displaced by the conflict that humanitarian partners remain committed to assist them, and to see first-hand the humanitarian needs in the area.  Although aid is hardly reaching remote villages due to insecurity and logistical constraints the humanitarian community is committed to deliver assistance to those who have been affected.

In this photo gallery, we join the Humanitarian Coordinator's visit and hear the challenges of displaced families.
