Kevin Kennedy is the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator (RHC) for the Syria Crisis.
Mr. Kennedy brings to the RHC position extensive experience in organizing the international community’s responses to humanitarian emergencies worldwide at the strategic, political, policy and field levels and beyond.
He was the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syria Crisis from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, he was deployed from August to October 2014 as Senior Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, following the activation of the IASC System-Wide Level 3 Emergency Response. Mr. Kennedy has served as Acting Head of the UN Department of Safety and Security, Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and Director of the Coordination and Response Division in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
He has also held senior humanitarian positions in Sudan, Iraq, the Balkans, Timor-Leste and Somalia. Mr. Kennedy is a national of the United States and Ireland.
